VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Annual Dinner Assistant:  Volunteers are needed to assist in the Annual Awards Dinner Committee.  It meets regularly after business hours on an adhoc basis.  

Board of Directors:  Board members direct the mission and course of the agency.  This is usually a multiple year committment.  Approval of new members will be determined by the current Board and based largely on the candidate's area of expertise and the Board's needs.  Some past positive involvement with our agency is strongly preferred, but not mandatory.

Children’s Sponsorship Assistant:  Volunteers are wanted who could provide fundraising support in this development initiative and others. 

Clean-Up Crew:   Volunteers are needed to help clean and organize program facility areas.

Educational Tutors:  Individuals, especially with education experience, are desired to help tutor children in academics and homework during program time in the late afternoons. Grades are elementary through high school.

Enrichment Activity Assistants:  Volunteers are needed Tuesday-Friday between 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM to assist and/or share an enrichment activity in our afterschool program for 10-20 youth in Hartford.  Share a special talent, organize a craft, lead a game session, share your love of music, dance, or theater the opportunities are vast.  This can be a one-time or regular commitment and is suitable for small groups of up to eight people. Special event/holiday assistance is also needed.

Internships:  Y-US works with local colleges and universities to provide learning opportunities for students seeking internships. Areas include: social work, business/economic development, youth work, community development, art, juvenile justice, teaching, psychology, research, public health, culinary. We welcome students to choose Y-US to fulfill their professional and academic goals.

All regular volunteers are required to fill out a short application and have a background check done by Y-US.  Please note that not all positions may be available at all times.  Also, if you have a special interest not listed here, feel free to contact us to see if we can accommodate your energy! Getting Started:

All regular volunteers working directly with our children require a background check by Y-US. Like many youth agencies, this is a precautionary measure taken to ensure the safety of our children. For further information about volunteering with Y-US, please contact our Administrative Assistant, at (860) 951-7268 Ext 122. There is a short application that we will ask you to fill out. Soon after, you too can be helping children in our community.
